Pupil Premium Award
The new national Pupil Premium Award has been developed in response to the latest Government and OFSTED inspection requirements. It adopts a streamlined arms-length approach to auditing and gathering evidence on good practice in the effective use of the pupil premium additional funding in order to make a significant impact on improving the achievement of the most disadvantaged pupils.
The self-evaluation framework covers the key aspects relating to making best use of the pupil premium. These include:
- Leadership, management and coordination
- Closing the attainment gap
- Value for money
- Empowering pupil voice
- Sharing good practic
- Impact
An educational setting or services makes ‘best fit’ judgements against the good practice evidence descriptors in the audit, for each key aspect. An action plan is developed to identify the activities necessary in order to address any gaps in current policy and practice.
Evidence for each key aspect is collected together in a portfolio, which is presented for external assessment. An on-site assessment is also undertaken, where the views of key stakeholders are heard, and pupil premium policy and practice is observed first hand.
The process usually takes between nine to twelve months, and when all six key aspects have been fully met, a glass plaque, framed certificate and a digital logo are obtained. The award is valid for three years and can be renewed for a further three years, following a reassessment.
